Plane crash injures 4 in Will County

Four people from Wilmington were involved in a plane crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 355 near Route 6 in Will County.

Illinois State Police reported a small plane operated by 39-year-old Jason Bufton was flying south when the aircraft experienced an unknown engine problem. Bufton made an emergency landing on the interstate causing damage to the front end and the left wing of the aircraft.

Two lanes on Interstate 355 southbound were shut down for the investigation and removal of the plane's wreckage, according to ISP.  All lanes were reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m.

James Bufton, 20-year-old Paige Bufton, 21-year-old Kirstyn McKim, and a juvenile female were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the incident.
