>>Planning Staff Says 'No' To Illiana Corridor

(Chicago, IL) -- Too costly and not necessary. Those are the conclusions of the staff of the agency that oversees transportation planning for this part of the state about the proposed Illiana Corridor.

The staff of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning,(known as CMAP), is recommending against the proposed toll road that would link I-55 and I-57 in Illinois with I-65 in Indiana. Their report says the road, built and operated under a public-private partnership, would put the state at financial risk since there is not sufficient growth expected along the route to generate tolls to sustain the highway.

The two agencies that will decide the project's fate are not bound by the staff's recommendation.            {Metro News}
