Police hunt after a vehicle is stolen in rural Vermilion County

Police in Vermilion County were joined by state authorities late Tuesday afternoon searching an area near Potomac for a man who was driving a stolen vehicle.

The search began mid-morning at Illinois 136 and a rural road west of Potomac, when a Vermilion County sheriff's deputy on patrol saw a Jeep that had been reported stolen.

The Jeep's driver took off down a gravel road. The deputy found the vehicle abandoned several miles away.

Search dogs and a State Police plane were brought in to assist.

Two suspects were in custody late Tuesday afternoon. Detailed charges have not been announced.
