Pontiac man killed in car-pedestrian mishap

A 48-year-old Pontiac man was killed this (Thursday) morning when he was hit by a car along Old Route 66 in Pontiac.

Edward Eilts was walking north in the southbound turn lane of old Route 66. He was just north of Illinois 23 when he was struck by a southbound car, according to the Livingston County Coroner's Office.

The accident happened at 6:15 am. It remains under investigation by Pontiac police and Illinois State Police.

It is the second area pedestrian fatality in the last week.
On Tuesday, 20-year-old Benjamin Allison, a student at Illinois State University, died of injuries suffered when he was hit by a car in uptown Normal on Saturday. Criminal charges have been filed against the driver in that case.
