Illinois officials say it’s important for parents and owners of pools to ensure all safety measures are in place to help prevent a drowning tragedy from occurring. According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 4,500 people died due to drowning each year from 2020–2022 in the United States, 500 more per year compared to 2019. The Illinois State Fire Marshal advises parents to stay off the phone and know where children are at all times in or around a pool.
