Pope Francis Accepts Conlon's Resignation As Diocese Of Joliet's Bishop

The bishop of the Joliet Diocese is officially no longer in his role. Pope Francis accepted Bishop R. Daniel Conlon's resignation Monday, four months after Conlon went on medical leave. Bishop Richard Pates will stay in that position until a successor is named. Conlon took over in Joliet in 2011 when he inherited a diocese that was in the midst of a sex abuse crisis. He also served as chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People.
