Utility crews are still busy working to restore electricity to customers after Monday's stormy weather. The hope is to have most people back online by tonight. I-55 at Channahon is open again. The route was closed since several vehicles were tangled in downed power lines from the storm.
At least three thousand utility workers were out Tuesday and Wednesday, helping ComEd restore power to hundreds of thousands of customers in the dark. At the height of the outage, officials said 430,000 customers were in the dark, with each customer potentially a household or business. Ameren Illinois said that it projected about 80% of customers impacted by Monday storms would be restored by 10 pm last night. Some of the challenges crews were tackling include transmission towers that came down in the high winds along I-55 near Channahon, which shutdown the highway.
The public is advised to stay away from downed power lines, let the work crews handle the repairs. And the public is advised to be aware of scammers offering to make repairs.
