Prepare for Higher Heating Bills

Ameren Illinois utility customers will be paying more money to heat their homes this winter.  Bills will be increasing up to 45%, maybe more if those brutal temps settle in.  The company reports natural-gas costs are up for several reasons, including large power outages in the South and limited supplies.  Then there's those freezing temperatures in February.  Customers would find it to be a blessing if we get a mild winter season.

Ameren says the supply cost for natural gas this month is about double what it was last December....69.67 cents per therm, compared to 36.96 cents last December.
