The Kankakee City Council offers voters contested races in the primary election set for Tuesday.
There are Democratic primaries in the 1st, 2nd and 6th wards.
The 6th Ward seat is open because longtime incumbent Dennis Baron is retiring.
There are 14 declared candidates trying to replace outgoing Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. All the candidates spent the weekend and Monday scrambling for votes. While the election officially is nonpartisan, the ballot is top heavy with Democrats.
If none of the candidates come away with at least 50% of the votes, a runoff election will be held on April 2 to determine the winner.
Polls will be open from 6 am. to 7 pm Tuesday.
Early Voting continues for the April 2nd Election –
Voters can cast their early ballots anytime now through April 1 for the Consolidated Election. Questions can be directed to County Clerk offices.
