Citizens in Watseka are invited to a public hearing (Tuesday evening) concerning the proposed sale of the city water system and wastewater treatment plant.
Public comments will be welcome during the hearing scheduled for 6 pm at City Hall.
The hearing is prior to the regular council meeting at 7 pm.
Aqua Illinois has offered Watseka $10.5 million for the purchase of the Watseka water system. The sale would result in a doubling of rates for taxpayers. But the cost for the city taking over the system itself would also result in rates that would double or be even higher.
The Watseka water system and operation of the waste water treatment facility is currently managed by ERH Enterprises.
