County Health Departments urge residents to test their homes for radon during National Radon Action Month. Radon, a radioactive gas with no taste, smell, or color, is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S., according to the CDC.
Testing is the only way to detect radon levels, especially during winter when homes are sealed. In Illinois, 45% of tested homes exceeded the EPA action level. Free radon test kits are available by reaching out to your health officials.
