The driver of a van is dead after a train and the van collided in Rensselaer, IN Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe the driver of the van was southbound across the railroad tracks along Matheson Street at 2:30 pm when the collision happened.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. A name is not being released until family is notified. Nobody else was inside the vehicle.

The roadway was closed for several hours for the investigation.
