Red Cross urges blood donors to step up

The Illinois Red Cross is putting out the call for blood donors to step up. There’s a severe national blood shortage after the holiday weekend and heading into the peak of summer. A Red Cross official said 38 percent of the population can give blood, but only 3 percent do. They’re looking for all types, but especially Type O. Find information at RedCrossBlood.org.

Local blood drives today (Wednesday 7/7) are at the St. Anne High School 8 am 'til 1 pm.  There's also a local drive in Woodworth at St. Paul's Lutheran School 2 pm 'til 6 pm.

Red Cross volunteers are at Northfield Square Mall in Kankakee County Thursday 7/8 from Noon 'til 6 pm.
