Congressman Adam Kinzinger reacted to the Wednesday attack at the U.S. Capitol. The 16th District Congressman posted "this is a coup attempt. " Pro-Trump protesters broke into the U.S. Capitol Building as a joint session of Congress was in session to certify the results of the November 3 Election. ABC News reported both chambers of Congress were placed on recess while the security dealt with the violence.

President Trump on social media asked his supporters to be peaceful and to support Washington DC police.

The Republican Kinzinger has derided his colleagues for objecting to election results from battleground states that led to Joe Biden's win in the Electoral College based on what he calls conspiracy theories.

Democrat Lauren Underwood also referred to the objections as a coup attempt on social media. She said that it's the duty of Congress to certify the vote that will confirm Joe Biden as President.

An investigation is underway over the breach in security at the Capitol.
