Rezin files legislation to expand state’s LIHEAP system

In order to provide much-need relief for Illinoisan struggling to afford increasing heating bills, Illinois Senate Deputy Minority Leader Sue Rezin filed legislation to expand the state’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to ensure that more families could access its benefits.

“Like most Illinoisans, I have been concerned with the rising rate for natural gas that we have seen throughout the state,” said Sen. Rezin. “This is an issue that affects all of us and appears to be only getting worse."

Senate Bill 4068, also known as the Home Heating Relief Act of 2022, will help protect families from energy inflation and runaway heating costs this winter by adding a second tier to the low-income assistance program.
