A Cure for Cancer is the focus for this weekend's Ride4Life. It's the 15th annual Ride4Life -- for the American Cancer Society. The effort has raised more than $700,000 for the ACS since 2001.

The group of motorcycle enthusiasts represent the Iroquois and Kankakee county area. They started the Ride4Life to bolster the fundraising campaign for ACS.

Saturday's event will again encourage participation for cancer research. It's one of several ACS money-makers that will again find several groups stepping up the cause toward a cancer cure.

The 100-mile ride averages about 600 bikers and 1,200 people per year. They trek from the Manteno Sportsman's Club and make several stops which include Essex, Ashkum, Grant Park and Peotone. If you're driving a vehicle, you're welcome too.

Tickets for the ride can be purchased at the Manteno Sportman's Club for $15 before the ride or $20 the day of the ride. Tickets entitle riders to four hours live music, dinner and a $1,000 cash prize. Separate drawings are available for three other cash prizes.

Registration on Saturday is from 10 a.m. to noon. A shotgun start is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 815-592-1914.

This year the American Cancer Society estimates there will be about 1.7 million Americans diagnosed with cancer, and 595,690 will die from the disease. Worldwide, about 7.6 million die from cancer per year.
