RIP: Iroquois County emergency response family loses two firefighting veterans

Two veteran members of Iroquois County's firefighters family died, leaving a void and mourning friends.

Long-time Wellington Fire Chief Ross Butzow died at his home Tuesday. And a 60-year volunteer fireman for Crescent City, Glenn Scheiwe, died Monday.

Both men carried the torch for emergency responders for many years. Both were community leaders.

Ross Butzow died in his sleep at his Wellington. He was 76. Ross was Wellington-Greer Fire Protection District Chief for 27 years. He was Wellington-Greer firefighter for 44 years. Prior to his years as chief he served as assistant-chief and training officer. He also had served on the Wellington Village Board.

Eight-one year-old Glenn Scheiwe passed away Monday at Presence St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. He was 81. www.knappfuneralhome.com

Glenn Scheiwe was a Crescent City volunteer fireman for over 60 years. He was a founding member of the Crescent City EMS and a founding member of the Crescent City Little League.

Both men were active members of the Eastern Illinois Mutual Aid Fire Association and MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System).
