Illinois has requested FEMA assist in assessing flood damage in 30 Illinois counties. Gov. J.B. Prtizker’s office says such documentation could support the state’s request for federal assistance. The assessments will begin July 29.
Meanwhile --- Kankakee County is onboard with Iroquois County in support of the newly-formed Kankakee River Basin and Yellow River Basin Development Commission. It’s a joint effort between Illinois and Indiana to explore avenues to alleviate flooding on the waterways in both states. Kankakee County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler and Iroquois County Board Chair John Shure will serve on the Commission. Iroquois County approved its resolution last month to participate.
Wheeler’s appointment to the Commission was approved by the Kankakee Executive Committee (Tuesday). The two respective chairmen have been involved in the two-state commission meetings for several months.
