Robbery suspect charged for multiple bank robberies

The Illinois man suspected of robbing several banks, including the Farmers State Bank in Watseka, has been officially charged with multiple accounts of robbery and theft. 41-year-old Joseph Kruger (of Tilton, IL) faces 4-counts of armed robbery (Level 3 felony) and 3-counts of theft. He’s also accused of being a habitual offender.

The robbery of three banks in the Lafayette, IN area led to his arrest last Wednesday 10/23 at a Shelbyville hotel. Surveillance videos of the robberies helped the FBI identify Kruger as a suspect. He was wearing difference disguises each time.

Kruger was still on probation for his previous conviction of bank robbery in November 2001. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison and then three years probation. Records show he was convicted in 1999 in Illinois for aggravated discharge of a firearm and sentenced to 8 years.
