Route 47 Bridge Removal Underway at Dwight

The removal of southbound Route 47 over I-55 at Dwight is now underway.  The project started Wednesday night.  All interstate 55 traffic will be diverted up the existing exit ramps, cross Route 47 and reentering using the entrance ramps. The interstate will close each day at 8 pm and reopen to normal traffic by 5 a.m.

IDOT said the entire removal project will last until May 11th and requires intermittent daily lane closures on Interstate 55. Work will also involve reconstructing Route 47 from Northbrook Avenue to just north of the Interstate 55 interchange and repair the ramps.

Motorists should be sware Route 47 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the new northbound lanes as work continues.  Drivers should be cautious in the construction zone.  The entire $9.3 million project will be completed later this year.
