Route 47 Construction

Illinois 47 interchange work begins June 21

OTTAWA – The Illinois Department of Transportation is announcing that the removal and replacement of the Illinois 47 bridge over Interstate 55 in Dwight will begin Monday, June 21. Work also will reconstruct Illinois 47 from Northbrook Avenue to just north of the I-55 interchange (exit 220) and repair the ramps.

Illinois 47 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the southbound lanes in the work zone as workers demolish and reconstruct the existing northbound portion. Shoulder restrictions on I-55 will be implemented and there will be occasional routing of traffic to the ramps to allow for demolition and setting of beams for the new bridge. Demolition and reconstruction of the existing southbound portion of the bridge will begin after the northbound portion is completed.
