The K3 County State’s Attorney’s Office filed civil charges against 67 members of the Gangster Disciples and Latin Kings in Kankakee County.
The charges come under the Illinois Street Gang Terrorism Omnibus Protection Act ---recognizing the fact that street gangs are operating and presenting a clear danger to the public and creating havoc in too many neighborhoods.
S-A Jim Rowe says “enough is enough.” He says every law abiding citizen is sick and tired of the shootings and criminal activity plaguing our communities. In short, he says, it’s time for the gangs to go.
Rowe explains rather than just relying on the prosecution of gang members after a crime is committed – when a victim has already suffered the effects of a gunshot wound or armed robbery – Rowe is seeking long-term prosecution of the entire gang to prevent crime and dismantle the gang networks.
Rowe said we’ll first go after the gang members and then go after their assets...their cars and houses from which they commit these crimes.
The complaint names the Latin Kings and Gangster Disciples as defendants along with 67 known gang members in the City of Kankakee and Kankakee County.
