School bus crashes in Illinois, Indiana leaves 3 dead

Two men were killed and nine people injured Wednesday night when a wrong-way semitrailer truck collided with a school bus on I-74.

The school bus was carrying a Normal West girls basketball team.

State police said the semi driver and an adult male bus passenger died of injuries suffered in the crash that was reported just past 8:30 pm. It happened between Bloomington and Downs.

The semi driver from Iowa was killed. The passenger on the bus was a popular school volunteer, 72-year-old Charles Crabtree of Normal.

Police said eight girls were on the bus. They were returning from Champaign.

In Indiana.....a male teenager died following a crash between a semi and a school bus in Marshall County. Indiana State Police said the bus driver had stopped at a railroad crossing then accelerated when it was hut from behind by a flatbed semi.

The accident was on U.S. 31. Police do not believe weather was a factor.
