School lockdown in Kankakee, react to gunfire

There was an obvious police presence today in a Kankakee alley near Oak and Chestnut Streets. Police responded to reports of gunfire.

The gunfire in the neighborhood prompted Kankakee School District 111 officials to implement a "soft lockdown" procedure. The lockdown was at two schools, the King Middle School and Lincoln Cultural Center. A school official confirms students were present in their classrooms and classes were in session, but extra precautions were being taken.
