The driver of a semitrailer truck had to be rescued by boat Friday night after the vehicle went off Interstate 55 into the Vermilion River near Pontiac.
53-yar-old Roy Cagle of Johnston City was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac. He was treated and released.
The truck was southbound when it ran off the road for an unknown reason, struck a guard rail and then crossed the median and northbound lanes. Police said the truck slid down the embankment and landed upright in the river.
The truck, which was carrying little cargo, remained in the river overnight. Police reported hazardous materials weren't involved.
Cagle was charged with improper lane usage.
