The Illinois Senate has passed legislation filed by State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) to create an easier process for attorneys to file out-of-state subpoenas.

"The current process for interstate subpoena requests is cumbersome, difficult, and can impair the judicial process for the citizens of this state," said Senator Barickman. "This legislation will provide attorneys with a more streamlined method that has already been adopted in a majority of states, ensuring a more responsive legal system for plaintiffs and defendants alike."

Senate Bill 45, initially proposed by the Illinois State Bar Association, would create the Uniform Interstate Depositions Act. This same act has been adopted by a total of 31 states and the District of Columbia.

SB45 now heads to the Illinois House for a vote in that chamber.          {submitted info}
