The IRS is reminding older Illinois residents about the dangers of impersonation scams ahead of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day July 15. Officials said fraudsters will impersonate government officials through phone, email or text when talking to seniors in an attempt to steal personal information or money. The IRS is reminding taxpayers that it will never contact a person through email, text or social media for tax bills or refunds.
