SHELDON — E.On Climate & Renewables North America is investigating a weekend damage report to a wind turbine near Sheldon in Iroquois County.
The damaged turbine was found at the Settlers Trail wind farm operation, just off Route 24. What happened is unclear, but a company spokesman said “it’s a rare incident for us.” Matt Tulis said the lone turbine had a blade that seems to have peeled back and bent over. Part of the balde and other debris was laying in the field.
No other turbines were damaged. There was heavy rain and wind reported overnight Saturday, but no other weather-related damage was reported and no other turbines were affected.
There are just under 100 turbines that make up the Settlers Trail wind farm operation near Sheldon.
The Settlers Trail Wind Farm was built last spring and is the second operational wind farm in Illinois for E.On. The firm also completed its Pioneer Trail Wind Farm near Paxton last fall.
