Sgt. Sherman recognized by Illinois Legislature on Memorial Day

The 2020 death of a Watseka military man was noted in the Illinois legislature over the Memorial Day weekend.  Army Sgt. Jeremy Cain Sherman died November 12, 2020 in a helicopter crash while on a peacekeeping mission on Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.  Five U.S. soldiers were killed in the crash along with a French and Czech service member.

During the Illinois House of Representatives annual Memorial Day tribute Saturday, Representative Tom Bennett asked the House members to remember Sgt. Sherman's sacrifice.

Sunday, the Illinois Senate held its Memorial Day ceremony and Senator Jason Barickman highlighted the medal-earning credentials Sgt. Sherman was awarded during his short military career, including the Commendation and Achievement Medals, National  Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Ribbon, Global War of Terrorism  Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Non- Commision Officer Professional  Development Ribbon,  Army Service Ribbon and  the Overseas Service Ribbon.

The legislature asked that Sgt. Sherman's family and friends be remembered on this Memorial Day.
