Grant Park mayor J.R. Meyer and 10 other local officials resigned suddenly last (Mon) night, forcing the Kankakee County town to re-group under new direction.
Nine of the village's 12 park board members also resigned. Trustee Chris Morse also resigned his position. Police Administrator Robert Husom also retired, effective immediately.
Trustee Bob Malkowski was appointed Mayor-pro tem. Steve Nardi, one of the town's patrol officers, was then appointed police chief.
Further explanations were not offered for the mass-exit of officials. Today, however, current council-members said the former mayor was not happy with results of the recent April election.
The village board's meeting agenda was tabled.
