Sheriff’s Offices are teaming up with school districts to make sure people are reminded about being safe around school buildings and buses. Starting today (Monday), deputies may be travelling routes with the buses to make sure drivers are obeying school bus stop arms and to make sure peol,e don't have their phones in hand. The hope is that, police presence will remind drivers about school bus safety laws.
When school bus stop arms are extended and amber lights are flashing, driver are required to stop from both directions while students are boarding or unloading.
Several well-travelled routes in east-central Illinois remain under construction as a new work-week gets started and a the new school year begins. That’s reason for motorists to be reminded to be careful, slow it down and pay attention to school buses and speed limits in school zones. There’s some major routes still needing attention by work crews. Lanes are limited in some construction zones. Driver can expect delays in many areas.
