Shop Small Saturday encourages local shopping

Small Business Saturday is this this Saturday, November 27.  The event is all about promoting local shopping and keeping your tax dollars at home.  Several businesses show appreciation to local customers by offering special "small business" sales.  Chambers of Commerce also encourage local shopping to help smaller businesses.

Black Friday, seemingly, kicks off the holiday shopping season.  It's grabbed the spotlight for years.  But the local shopping scene needs your support and shoppers are urged to keep your dollars local.  Small Business Saturday — or Shop Small Saturday — follows up black Friday.   A reported $12.9 billion was spent last year on Small Business Saturday, but that was down from $20 billion in 2019.   Surveys show shoppers want to shop at home.  Business owners are asked to step up and accomodate the local consumers.

Fifty-seven percent of those surveyed said the main reason for shopping small is to keep money local, with 38 percent saying they want to support their community and local creators.
