Snow Accumulation, Wind Pose Travel Issues

Nowcast as of 9:00 am January 19, 2012

Through 1100 am CST...light to moderate snow will continue to fall across portions of Illinois and Indiana with visibilities dropping to less than a mile at times and untreated or lightly traveled roadways becoming snow covered. Accumulation rates of a quarter to half an inch are possible at times with the heaviest snow falling across a corridor from Ottawa Illinois to Fowler Indiana.

At the National Weather Service in Romeoville, meteorologist Gino Izzi tells WGFA's Carl Gerdovich the snowfall is expected to continue through the afternoon hours today (Thurs), then tonight colder temps and winds settle in locally.  Another fast-moving front Friday may bring more snow and sleet adding to travel problems.  The brunt of the Friday snow is forecast for the Chicago-land area and northwest Indiana, but Izzi said areas here--along the state border--could get hit Friday too.

Motorists need to prepare for slow commutes and colder temps.
