Social Media not your source for official information

As much as social media has become many people’s means to find what they want to know, it’s not the official source the public needs . Too many agencies/organizations seem to believe “if it’s posted, it’s out there.”

John Beavis, Kankakee County Health Department Administrator, says people need to be sure they’re getting their info from a reliable source.

“Too often social media postings don’t seem right or look right, and references should be your health department, the Illinois Department of Health, hospitals --- especially when it comes to coronavirus matters.”
Beavis said people seem to put stuff out there and people tend to go with it. That’s not right, he said.

Organizations including government, schools, social groups and even sports can make sure their public information is accurate and relevant by distribute ng it to their media sources.
