A Water Rescue Team and paramedics responded to a serious crash on Lake Shafter at Monticello, IN Saturday night. Monticello Fire reports it was around 9 pm when emergency crews responded to a report of a speedboat carrying six people that struck a large tree limb while traveling on Lake Shafer.

The mishap occurred on the lake’s north end near West Shafer Drive.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources provided further details. Boat-operator Jason Ward, passengers James Scott and John Mahoney III were removed from the boat by rescue personnel on the scene. They were taken to IU White Hospital.

Scott and Ward were airlifted to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with critical life-threatening injuries.
