St. Anne Firehouse burns

Damage estimates are being reviewed after an early-morning fire today (Monday) did extensive damage to the St. Anne Fire Department. No one was injured. Several area fire departments responded.

The property loss, besides the rear portion of the building, included a rescue boat, pickup truck, trailer, extra equipment and tools. The fire chief’s office burned destroying a lot of memorabilia. The cause hasn’t been determined. St. Anne firemen and mutual aid volunteers worked feverishly to save the main building which housed the department’s fire trucks.

The fire chief and assistant-chief were away from home at the time of the fire. It was a big help to have area fire units answer the call.
