Thanksgiving is the number one day for home fires involving cooking equipment. State Fire Marshall spokesman J. C. Fultz suggests people keep anything that could catch fire away from hot stoves and don't leave food unattended. Any stovetop fires should be smothered by an obvious flames-retardant object. And any turkey fryers should only be used outdoors. Fultz also suggests kids be kept away from cooking food and utensils.
