State Police, IDOT Winter Weather Travel Advisory

Ashkum, IL- Illinois State Police District 21 covering Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford Counties are reminding drivers to take precautions as they travel.

The Illinois State Police are advising motorist to be cautious while traveling this morning. Interstate 57 is down to one lane in most areas throughout Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford Counties due to snow and ice, and is experiencing blowing snow. District 21 is beginning to respond to reports of slide offs and crashes due to the weather conditions. Secondary roads are also snow covered, icy, and are experiencing blowing snow. Extra caution should be taken while traveling through I-57 at mile post 315 and 309 areas due to blowing snow.

The Illinois Department of Transportation at Ottawa reports most routes are snow-covered in Iroquois, Ford, kankakee and Livingston counties.

Motorists are also advised to be cautious while driving near and around snow plows.

The Illinois State Police are asking drivers to monitor changing weather conditions, limit their travels, and be prepared to allow plenty of time to reach your destination. Drivers are also encouraged to put extra water, food, and warm clothing their vehicle. Please contact your nearest police department if you vehicle becomes disabled or involved in a crash.
