Kankakee Community College is playing host to the Illinois Supreme Court---again. The 3rd District Appellate Court will be hearing arguments in two cases at KCC.

Arguments are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Iroquois Room. The public is invited.

The push to bring its business to the people was started by Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride. He’s a former Kankakee resident.

Of the two cases, one is civil and the second is criminal. The civil case is Dixon, Laukitis & Downing PC v. Busey Bank. The case involves the law firm alleging the bank has failed to recognize and inform them that a deposited check was counterfeit.

The criminal case is People v. Carr. It involves a defendant appealing his conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol and criminal damage to government property after he broke a window of a police squad car.

It’s the second time the Appellate Court is visiting here. In October 2010, the appellate court heard cases at KCC.
