State Trooper, Fire Chief Injured in Traffic Crash

Illinois State Police report a separate fatal accident led to a second crash..the latter involving a trooper and the Otto Township Fire chief.

A state police squad slammed into the rear of a fire vehicle driven by Otto Township Fire Protection District Chief Jay Hanson.  It happened early Sunday,  while both emergency vehicles were involved in a search for a rollover accident that killed someone  else.

Hanson and the un-identified trooper were treated at Riverside Hospital.

A press release issued by District 21 state police at Ashkum stated the accident occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57, just north of Chebanse.

Hanson and the trooper were searching for a rolled over vehicle, when Hanson spotted the vehicle and braked. The trooper didn’t notice the fire vehicle had stopped, running into the rear end.

State Police reported an un-identifed passenger of the rolled over vehicle died from his injuries. The driver, 37-yr-old Eboni Williams of Champaign, suffered serious injury.
