Storm activity alters business activities in Watseka

Watseka Police and Public Works employees are doing what they can today (Thurs) to resume normal activities after overnight storms. The morning commute has been a challenge with downed trees and power lines messing up several roadways. Barricades are in place and standing water and other debris is hampering traffic.

Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes and make room for emergency vehicles.

Several businesses were closed because of no power.

Watseka was one of the hardest-hit communities, according to the National Weather Service. Winds were clocked at 83 mph. Weather Response Teams are accessing the damages.

School closings include Watseka Unit #9, Donovan Unit #3 and Crescent City District #249. South Newton Corporation in Indiana was on a 2-hour delay.

The KCC South Extension in Watseka closed because of no power. The Iroquois Mental Health Center is closed in Watseka, Other satellite offices are open. Iroquois County Care Services is closed today. The ARC’s Wells Career Center is closed. (CILLA’s are operating as usual).

The Iroquois County Courthouse and Administrative Center are closed for lack of power.
