Storm damage in Central-Illinois Monday

Storms caused some damage and power interruptions across a wide area of central-Illinois Monday evening. Winds reached more than 70 mph, bringing down trees and power lines. ComEd customers in Kankakee County were still waiting for power to be re-stored this morning.  The NWS had severe T-storm warnings in place to about 10 pm. No injuries were reported.

Storms erupted around 5 pm after heavier rain showers in the afternoon. Reports of heavy rain, hail, and high winds that reached from 70 – 80 mph.

Vermilion County EMA reported multiple cases of trees and power lines down. Two reports of transformers catching fire also came in from that area.

In Sangamon County, a wind gust of 63 mph was measured on the west side of Springfield.

In Livingston County, golf ball size hail was reported with a storm near Cornell.

Macon and Piatt Counties also had strong winds push through. Damage to trees was reported.

Will and Kankakee Counties reported widespread tree and power line damages.Kankakee reported winds at 80 mph. The Village of Bradley and Peotone reported tree damage and utility lines down. Nw Indiana also reported clean-up operations after trees and power lines were down.

Emergency Management Agency officials report no injuries.
