Storms cause damage

Severe storms caused damage across parts of Central Illinois early today (Monday). Locally, there’s been no reports of severe damage, but motorists were told to be aware of ponding on some routes. Some wicked lightning and thunder lit up the sky.

Other parts of central-Illinois weren’t so lucky. A path of damage was observed from Bloomington to Champaign.  Wind gusts reported at 59 mph at Central Illinois Airport. Further south, trees and powerlines were blown down near Le Roy, Saybrook, and Bellflower. At least one structure was damaged when a utility pole fell through a roof.

No official word yet from the NWS whether a tornado touched down or not.
