KENTLAND --- Sheriff’s Police in Newton County, Indiana are investigating the strangulation of a jail inmate. The unidentified inmate was airlifted to a Peoria hospital after initial treatment at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
A press release states correctional officers at the jail were alerted at 6:45 Thursday evening that an inmate had strangled himself in a cellblock.
CPR was started and continued by Kentland Medical personnel and ambulance staff after the 34-year-old inmate was found with a bed-sheet secured around his neck. He was reported in critical condition at IMH and was later transferred to a Peoria hospital.
