It took a Kankakee County jury just over an hour to find Darius Sullivan guilty on all counts in the 2021 shootings of two Bradley (IL) police officers. The 28-year-old Sullivan was convicted for the shooting death of Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic and the wounding of Officer Tyler Bailey. Both were shot at a Bradley Hotel while responding to a barking dogs complaint in December 2021. A sentencing date was not set. Sullivan will be back in court in November.
Jurors listened to two hours of closing arguments, then deliberated just over an hour before returning to an overcrowded courtroom to deliver the verdict.
Sullivan was also found guilty of three-counts of endangering the life of a child. The prosecution said Sullivan's three children were in the hotel room during the crime.
An emotional two-hours of closing arguments included audio of Sgt. Rittmanic's cries for mercy, as she pleaded with her attacker not to killer her. Several distraught onlookers were forced to leave the Courtroom, unable to listen to Marlene beg for her life.
Sullivan's girlfriend is facing the same charges. Xandria Harris will stand trial later.
