Illinois State Police and the Department of Transportation closed a portion of I-57 at Paxton Saturday after a semi and SUV collided. Both north and southbound lanes were shutdown for about five hours following the accident about 4:30 pm. Traffic was backed up fop several miles and police set up an alternate route.
A crash involving a van and semi-truck shut down part of Interstate 57 for 5 hours.
State Police reported a Michigan truck driver read-ended the southbound SUV, pushing it into the northbound lanes. The SUV then flipped over and caught fire.
Four people inside the SUV were treated at the hospital. The driver wasn’t hurt seriously but others sustained more intense injuries, according to police. The SUV was occupied by a Rantoul family.
The semi driver was ticketed for failure to reduce speed.
