Sweeping Criminal Justice Reforms Headed To Governor's Desk

Local lawmakers oppose the measure -- Voting against were Representatives Tom Bennett, Jackie Haas, Mike Marron and Dan Brady.  Also voting No was Senator Sue Rezin

A package of sweeping criminal justice reforms is headed to Governor J.B. Pritzker's desk. The state House and Senate passed the police reform bill yesterday morning. The Illinois Black Caucus agreed to remove the elimination of qualified immunity from the bill to ensure its passage. Leaders of the caucus say the fight for reforms is "far from over." The package includes the elimination of cash bail and would continue the maintenance of a database of police officers who wrongly use force. Pritzker has indicated he will sign it.
