Swing Choir competition returning to WCHS

High school swing choirs are coming back to Watseka.  The once-popular high school talent has been absent in recent years, but the stage performances will be back March 11.

The Watseka High School Swing Choir Invitational will feature several talented student groups.  Junior-high and high-school competition is planned for Saturday, March 11.  The all-day entertainment includes the Watseka Sensations in exhibition ONLY.  The Sensations are under the direction of first-year Director Grace Kim.  The Sensations are a group of 10 singer/dancers, 9 combo members and 5 stage crew members.  The Watseka Sensations will perform twice that day, at 1:15 and then at 8 pm.

Competing schools will include:  Kankakee, Manteno. Crete-Monee, two groups from North Ridge Middle School, two from El Paso Middle School while high school groups include Southmont, Highland, Pekin and El Paso.

"We're so excited to be back for the first time since 2019," says Swing Choir Booster Club President Erica Clark.  "High school and Junior-high groups will be on stage.  Many have asked if the Invitational will be back and it's great to say "Yes," we're back this year with hope for more in future years."

Clark said  "it's touching to hear and see the community support."
