Task Force arrests leads to federal charges

Two more men have been arrested as part of a federal investigation on weapons and drug charges. Both suspects are in federal custody with the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.

The arrests are the result of a Kankakee Project Safe Neighborhood Task Force investigation.

41-year-old Charles Nance of Minnesota, formerly of Kankakee, faces 2-counts of distribution of crack cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon.

31-year-old Jermaine Speed of Kankakee is charged with 3-counts of distribution of crack cocaine and a single-count of distributing more than 28 grams of crack.

Both men were indicted by a federal grand jury. The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into gun violence in the Kankakee area.
