Tax filing begins today

It's tax time in Illinois, and for a lot of people that means going online.

If you want your tax return quickly, the Illinois Department of Revenue is telling people to go online. The state will start to accept tax returns on Monday.

Terry Horstman with the Revenue department says filing online, and having your refund sent directly to your bank will be the quickest way to get your money back.

Horstman says Illinois is even allowing folks to do their identity verification online this year.

That used to have be done through the mail.

But don't go shopping just yet. Horstman says even if you file your taxes on Monday, it will take about a month to get your return.
